Landing your plane at night with just a flashlight and a great ATC Controller

Runway at night

the scenario:

Your flying your plane, your about 20 miles out from your landing destination, then suddenly your cabin lights, and instrument panel lights begin to slowly fade out, then there’s blackness.  You scramble around to find your flashlight, and hurry to turn it on. All systems are still fuctioning but landing seems hopeless with just the faint glow of your flashlight.

This is where “Precision approach radar comes in“  PAR is a type of radar guidance system designed to provide lateral and vertical guidance to a pilot for landing up to the missed approach point.  (Mid runway)

Controllers monitor the PAR displays to observe the aircrafts position and they issue instructions to the pilot. This keeps the pilot on course for the final approach.

This method is very similar to an (ILS) approach, but PAR approaches require voiced control instructions.

The Audio link below demonstrates the PAR approach in action.

Wow, realy beautifull Fotos! Did you make them alone, or maybe they are from Flickr?

Reply from Jim - The runway photo was given to me by friend. I am not sure if he actually took it or not ?
The others are from the 2007 Pontiac Mi Air Show.

Thanks for the comment.
